I have always struggled with shoes. Any additional structure or "support" seems to torture my foot, and the toe box is rarely wide enough. I used to buy cheap shoes that fell apart quickly, often second hand, changing pairs frequently to spread the discomfort around. Barefoot shoes have helped me avoid that, and let me buy some quality shoes for hiking. But I've missed tall, fashionable boots!
The price for these is more than I normally spend on shoes - but they are definitely worth it. I went out on a 3 mile walk on my second day in these shoes. There was no break-in period at all. I went on a 6 mile hike a couple of days later. Perfect. I couldn't believe it.
And to make it weirder (good weird)? These shoes are literally so comfortable that I can wear them while sitting cross-legged for hours. When I take them off, it's usually because my socks are bothering my feet (and socks bothering me happens when I'm not wearing shoes, also). I wear them most of the day at home, since my home office is in the basement and it can get a bit chilly. The zipper makes these one of my easiest shoes to put on - I rarely bother with slippers anymore.
I'm one of those people who normally orders a half-size to full-size larger (in US sizes) because shoes are never wide enough. I took a chance and ordered the size that matched my actual foot size instead for these. It was the right choice!
The only thing I can think of that these boots are NOT good for is riding a motorbike. The material is so flexible, especially around the ankle, that it's not likely to be great protection. Which is fine, since wearing them around the house matters a lot more to me.
For appearance: I got the brandy - and they are a lovely, warm brown with a bit of mottling to the color that adds visual interest. I do have wide calves, so these boots don't lace super-tight and snug like in the photos. I've walked dozens of miles in them, including through mud, rocks, roots, etc., with only the faintest scuffing on the toes - they hold up well to being used!
So, to reiterate:
* Sufficient toe box
* Good for hiking long distances
* Comfortable enough to wear when lounging / sitting cross-legged
* Easy to get on and off
* Fashionable appearance
I really loved how these look in photos & was so hopeful. I returned them because I didn't like the way the leather sort of bent at the ankle when I tried them on. Also although I have a 25.5 cm foot & fit Peerko breeze in EU 40 with plenty of room, my toes hit a sort of slightly upturned "rim" (or ridge?) at the very front of these in size 40 that i had a feeling would be very uncomfortable with a day's wear. Returned for Peerko riding boot in size 41, very happy with those.
So happy with this purchase. I've been on the hunt for a zero-drop knee-high lace-up boot for a long time. Took a chance on these and was rewarded. As a size 9, the size 40 is the right fit. The Chestnut is a unique bronze color. After walking around in them, the black pair were purchased. I hope Anya's stocks Peerko ongoing!
I love that these zipnup with a boot shaft that doesn't gap around my Calf. They do have extra room around my ankle, but that us normal on me. Nice room in the toes, and nice and long on my long legs, they come up fairly high on my Calf. They are also lightly lined for extra warmth. Great buy, also fashionable
My feet are giant (size 42) and can be hard to fit--but these boots fit like a dream. The color is beautiful, the style is chic (I like that is a little punk), and it's possible to walk in them all day, indoors and out. The adjustable laces seem like they would help control the shaft width; the default fit me perfectly. When can I get my next pair? Let me also mention that Anya's seems to have great customer service; real people, ready to help you find the perfect shoe.
